Philippe Park contains a Safety Harbor Mound, a pre-Columbian shell mound built by the Tocobaga people over 1,000 years ago.
The park is named for Count Odet Philippe, a French nobleman and physician who established one of Florida's first grapefruit groves here in the 1840s.
Old Bay Road, which runs through the park, is believed to be one of the oldest roads in Hillsborough County.
The park sits on a peninsula jutting into Old Tampa Bay, offering views of the Courtney Campbell Causeway and the Tampa skyline.
Safety Harbor Sunrise 5K
A popular community road race that winds through the park and along the bayfront trail.
Nature Photography Weekend
Amateur and professional photographers gather at the park to capture migratory shorebirds and fall bayshore light.
Visit early morning for the best wildlife viewing along the bayshore. The historic mound at the north end of the park is worth the short hike — it's one of the oldest human-made structures in Florida.
